Dean Haist
Dean Woodward Haist was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mr. Haist can best be described as a musical entrepreneur involved with a variety of arts organizations and activities. He received his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees. Mr. Haist is President of Arts Incorporated, a business that provides management services for the Association of Nonprofit Executives, Capital Jazz Society, Lincoln Municipal Band, Monday Night Big Band, Nebraska Brass, Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, Nebraska Trumpet Ensemble and the Lincoln Jazz Series. It includes the American Music Corporation, a recording and publishing company, the Nebraska Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and also contracts musicians for a variety of musical events, from classical to jazz.
Mr. Haist is Executive Director, co-founder, and lead trumpet of the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra. He is also the founder, Executive Director, and first trumpet of the Nebraska Brass. He serves as the Executive Director and first trumpet of the Lincoln Municipal Band, Executive Director of the Capital Jazz Society, Nebraska Trumpet Ensemble, and is director and founder of the summer Nebraska Jazz Camp held in Lincoln.
Dean is active in a number of professional organizations, holding membership in the International Trumpet Guild, National Association of Jazz Educators, and the Music Educators National Conference. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Federation of Musicians Local 463, Lincoln and has also served on review panels for the Nebraska Arts Council. In 1997, he was named Nonprofit Executive of the Year by the Association of Nonprofit Executives and currently serves as their President.
As a busy freelance trumpet soloist and artist, he has been involved with many musical organizations, including the following: Omaha Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, Opera/Omaha, Nebraska Brass, Irie Caribbean Jazz, and Nebraska Jazz Orchestra. He has worked in radio and television recording, such as the major motion picture, The Cotton Club and the television production, Amerika. Mr. Haist has appeared as guest soloist with a number of groups throughout the United States, Europe, the Far East, and the Caribbean, and has also performed with a great variety of artists, including: Bob Hope, Aaron Copland, Bill Cosby, Doc Severinsen, George Burns, Freddie Hubbard, Marilyn Maye, Marvin Stamm, Clark Terry, Don Menza, Bobby Watson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Wayne Newton, Fresh Aire/Mannheim Steamroller, Rod Stewart, and Big Bird, among others. He has performed on a number of cruise ships and can be heard on American Gramophone, Visual Music, American Music as well as other recording labels. He performs often with touring Broadway shows in Lincoln and Omaha and has recently played for The Producers, Chicago and Wicked, among others.
His present teaching duties include applied trumpet, jazz improvisation, brass and jazz ensembles at Nebraska Wesleyan University. He is listed in dozens of Whos Who publications, including: Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, 5000 Personalities of the World, Who's Who Among Young American Professionals, International Whos Who of Professionals, Who's Who in Entertainment, Whos Who in America, Whos Who of Intellectuals, and Who's Who in the World.
